Before purchasing a Gaggenau refrigerator outside of the USA please check with the Star-K office 410.484.4110.

Phytolab brand herbal products, distributed by Natalia Import, LLC, of Brooklyn, NY, bear an unauthorized Star-K symbol. The company is not Star-K certified.

Corrective action is being taken.

For those consumers who had unexpected GE oven shutdowns over the last two holidays, here is a workaround to avoid this problem:

Enter Sabbath Mode as usual; wait for one bracket to appear on the screen; then, either trip the circuit breaker or unplug the unit for 30 seconds. Re-connect power, and proceed with Sabbath Mode as usual.

GE is aware of the problem, and is working on a fix.

As indicated on the product label, Twinlab Triple Action Oral Health Dots(TM) (tablets) contain a dairy ingredient. The product was inadvertently labeled Star-K. Future labels will bear a Star-D Dairy symbol. The product is Cholov Stam.

We have received reports that many of the cooktops on these ranges have a 12 hour shutoff, and will not stay on throughout YomTov. We recommend that you test your range before YomTov to see if it has this shutoff.

We have received reports that the Sabbath Mode feature on some models may not be working properly. Ovens may shut off after 12 hours. Please test your oven or range before YomTov to see whether it shuts off. If it does, please make alternate arrangements to heat your food.

Effective immediately, Salem Botanicals of Carneys Point, NJ, is no longer under Star-K certification.

If you have purchased a GE oven or range within the last year, the Sabbath Mode instructions may state: "To turn the oven off, press Cancel/Off at any time. The oven will immediately turn off and ][ will change to ] indicating that the oven has turned off."

Alternatively, your instructions might read:

"To turn the oven off, press Cancel/Off at any time. At a random time between 30 seconds and 1 minute, the ][ icon will change to the ] icon, indicating that the oven has turned off."

Please note: You may NOT turn the oven off on Shabbos or Yom Tov. These instructions apply only after Shabbos/YomTov when you want to reset the oven to normal, non-Sabbath Mode.

Packages of Dropshotz Jello Shots Bronx, NY bear an unauthorized Star-K symbol. The product contains beef gelatin as listed on the ingredient panel. Corrective action is being taken.

Packages of 4-Earth Crepes, which contain dairy ingredients as listed on the ingredient panel, bear an unauthorized Star-K symbol. These products are being sold at Fresh Market and elsewhere. The proper status is Star-D, Dairy, Non-Cholov Yisroel. Corrective action is being taken.

Shopko Brand Fiber Capsules were inadvertently labeled with an unauthorized Star-K symbol. The product contains gelatin which is listed in the ingredient panel and is not Kosher. It was packaged in "160 capsule" containers. The product has been recalled.

Effective immediately, Easta La Vista Restaurant in Baltimore, MD, is no longer certified by STAR-K Kosher Certification.

Effective April 1, 2014, Royal Caterers of Fresh Meadows, NY is no longer certified by STAR-K Kosher Certification. This includes all kosher events at Crest Hollow Country Club, Woodbury, NY and Leonards, Great Neck, NY etc. which are no longer STAR-K certified.

Ancient Harvest Quinoa Mac & Cheese has been reformulated and is no longer being produced kosher. Boxes that bear the Star-D symbol are Kosher, Dairy, non Cholov Yisroel. Those boxes include a cheese packet which states "Star-D". Boxes without the Star-D symbol contain the new reformulated product and are not kosher.

Polar brand Mixed Fruits in Cherry Flavor bears an unauthorized STAR-K symbol. Corrective action is being taken.

Swiss Mix manufactured by Barcelona Nut Processing Co., mistakenly bears the STAR-K symbol.

In fact it is Dairy/Non-Cholov Yisroel and should bear the STAR-D symbol.

In some models of STAR-K certified Whirlpool built-in wall ovens, there may be a problem with opening the oven door on Shabbos & YomTov. This could shut off a fan.

To determine if your oven is one of those with this problem, perform a test during the week by putting your oven in Sabbath Mode, waiting for it to reach the desired temperature, and then opening the oven door. Listen to hear if a fan is shut off immediately on opening. If so, your oven can not be used on Shabbos & YomTov.

We are working with the manufacturers to correct this problem. We will be posting the model numbers of which ovens may be affected as soon as we have that information.
